charolastras are a group of experimental electronic musicians with a keen interest in ancient rituals involving dance. in many cultures from the past, music and dance were closely tied with shamanism, spirituality and even combat. these traditions continue today in some parts of the world where music isnt solely for entertainment, as is often the case in our modern western society. the group s goal is to spread a message of peace and unity with their music. this intention is evident in the blissful ethereal textures used in their mellifluous productions. but their sound can also have a harder edge that evokes conflict, not calm. this is all by design because, as charolastras like to point out, sometimes you have to fight for peace .

borrowed music return to wax see s a release that very nearly didn t see the light of day. between the years of 1995-99, toka project were writing tracks at diy s studio and releasing ep s with their label, s4g. these tracks were stored on dat tape (remember) and left for release at a later date. when the toka boys moved into their own place the dats were misplaced and presumed lost for good. unknown to anyone at the time, the tracks had simply been placed on a hard drive and forgotten about, until now. so, borrowed is very proud to present a slice of unreleased 90s house just the way we like it

having previously used their dnuos ytivil offshoot to release material from their nearest and dearest (think batu, bruce, hodge and alex coulton), bristols livity sound crew turns to unknown french producer simo cell. the two tracks showcased here are a rather fine introduction to this newcomer, with opener *piste jaune* offering a clandestine blend of stuttering electro bass, discordant analogue percussion hits and spooky electronics. the mystery man goes for the jugular on *cellar door*, with pitched-down, bleep style melodies and liquid electronics riding an off-kilter, broken techno groove. another fine livity release.

emotional rescue returns to the post war music of west germany and the work of dominik von senger and his cohorts based around the dunkelziffer project. this special -sampler- ep of recordings was produced as their part in cologne s stollwerck art complex, that acted as a home and inspiration to their musical experiments. based within the disused industrial warehouses spaces of stollwerck, a mix of post-hippies, punks and anarchists created a community within that fed off each other s artistic endeavours.

unless you have been sleeping it should be pretty obvious that wph head honcho red d has a weak spot for early belgian trance stuff. before trance was even known as trance that is… the early 90ies were the post new beat era in belgium and loads of producers were experimenting with new sounds to steer away from the blatantly commercial new beat chart stuff. so that is when the magic started happening.

emerging deep from within the depths of the brooklyn underground. upsetting keys seeks to inform, to educate and inundate. this time they are armed with emotional, unknown electronic structures that originated back in the late 90s. the audio sculptures presented on this release specifically pass somewhere in a shape between total art form and other, much more subliminal and subdued opaque constructs. reade truth, iconic producer of planet e and sonic groove fame, rewinds all the way back to his first imprint, reintroducing to the public to the elusive and oft hyped path records.

this second release on dialegestai is our homage to romanian minimal house and techno music. one track by a household name, the other by the equally talented - but still very unknown - vlad radu. in our humble opinion both tracks have a certain unique quality and vibe to them. the question minimal and trippy, the answer haunting and mysterious :) we hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

the next chapter in the main the invariants series surfaces. on the a side two slightly more effective cuts with centripetal force. on the flipside it submerse with the first a track from the tape archives and to close the ep off a downtempo acid session.

stay underground it pays returns! relatively unknown newcomer modula brings us a slab of ruff n ready analog cuts, with a real standout remix from fuckthegovernment! said remix of controllo by f.t.g is so good that it is the opener of the whole record. it’s a remix built for late night experiences, one for the warehouse, with it’s wailing, ravey vocal samples and subterranean rolling acid bassline. the a side is rounded off by modulas tape mix of controllo. doing what it says on the tin, the graininess and saturation that tape production brings is instantly noticeable. while the tape mix is not as sinister as f.t.gs remix, nor as spatially dense, its greater emphasis on synth work is bound to make it a favourite for many suit fans.the b side takes on more of techno form than the a side. kicking off with intrigo (tape edits), the pad sounds give it an ethereal atmosphere, contrasting the almost militant feel of the percussion and bassline. immerso (instrumental mix) is probably the highest energy pick of the bunch, lots of bleepy synth work and crispy power claps might make this track the djs pick of the record. all in all, a top record from modula! dont sleep on it!
